May 2015: Fishing Campout

This is the last and possibly the greatest campout of the year.   We have arranged a fishing camp out at Chain O Lakes State Park with a fishing guide who has led other Scout troops.  We'll be camping both Friday and Saturday night.  Please sign up as soon as you can so we can get an accurate count.

And here's more information:

We'll be camping in the Mud Lake West campground at Chain O'Lakes State Park on the Fox River. Our fishing will be in the afternoon on Saturday.  We have a professional fisherman who loves teaching people how to fish, loves working with Scout groups, and will provide all the equipment, teach us what we're doing, and then hold a little competition. Johnny says the fish are biting, so it should be fun.

Note that this is only an hour from Evanston, so if anyone can't come for the whole weekend, you're welcome to drive up and join us for the fishing.

Also, for the scouts doing the NYLT orientation on Saturday morning:  Camp Crown is only 15 minutes away, so we'll arrange for you to get to Camp Crown in time for the NYLT orientation and then back to Chain O'Lakes in time for the fishing.

One important thing to note:  anyone age 16 or over who wants to fish must have an IL DNR fishing license. Scouts 15 and under can fish without a license. The good news is that if you are 16 or older and want to fish, you can buy a license online and it's only $15 and is good until next spring.  For the older scouts and adults:  you're welcome to attend and watch - and even assist the younger scouts - without a license, but if you are caught actively fishing without a license, you are personally responsible for the fine.
