Troop 3 is a boy-led troop where scouts plan, lead and participate in meetings. We stress scout skills, enjoyment of the outdoors, leadership development and individual responsibility. Advancement follows on its own. This approach has resulted in Troop 3’s unique characteristic - and the one we are most proud of – our ability to retain scouts in active and participatory roles through high school. The resulting wide range of ages provides experienced, older youths with opportunities to act as leaders, teachers and role models for the younger Scouts.
The entire troop meets from 8:00-9:05 p.m. Thursdays, during the school year at Orrington Elementary School, 2636 Orrington Ave., Evanston, with informal dodge-ball (or sometimes something else) from 7:30 - 8:00. Meetings are used to teach skills, hear visiting speakers, prepare for upcoming events or hold Scoutmaster conferences for advancement. In addition, patrol meetings are held about twice a month at a time and location convenient for the members.
